Promafour System
Brand: Promat
The ever-increasing popularity of the fireplace as a focal point in the modern home means that not only are traditional fireplaces being opened up to accommodate freestanding or inset stoves, but entirely new fireplaces are being created within rooms without an existing construction recess. Whether the appliance is a freestanding stove within a masonry opening or an inset fire within a false chimney breast, there is a requirement for boards with good mechanical properties which are capable of withstanding high temperatures.
Promat provides the perfect fire protection and insulation solutions for building a new fireplace structure or lining an existing one, and this product is now HETAS Listed.
But is there really a need for special products when constructing or modifying fireplaces?
Well, if you consider that any construction adjacent to a wood burning stove can reach a temperature of 400°C or more and compare this with the 45°C maximum recommended temperature for standard plasterboard, the need for something special is very clear.
Because it is inherently non-combustible, the PROMAFOUR system is ideal for constructing a false chimney breast to accommodate a cassette/inset type fire place. Safe, reliable and robust, the chimney breast insulation system has been developed to resist continuous high temperatures of up to 1000°C.
Using Promafour to create a fireplace saves time and because the boards have a high-quality finish there is no need for plaster which eliminates mess. Installed correctly with the promafour studwork, the structure won’t crack due to the heat of the fire.
It is little wonder that Promafour is becoming the material of choice for architects and designers.
Used within a builder’s opening, the main functions of the board are:
- To provide flat, heat resisting lining
- To reflect the majority of heat back into the room
- Providing a thermal barrier capable of withstanding up to 1000°C continuous working temperature.
Further information and installation guidance for both applications can be found below under ‘Downloads‘.
